Peran Bahasa sebagai Alat Pembentuk Identitas Budaya dan Penggerak Kesadaran Budaya di Bekasi

Abstract
Background : Language is an essential element in the formation of cultural identity and cultural awareness in society. In Bekasi, which has ethnic and cultural diversity, the role of local language in shaping the identity of the community is significant. However, with the influence of globalization and the shift of the younger generation towards national and foreign languages, the sustainability of local languages in Bekasi faces serious challenges.
Purpose : This study aims to explore the role of language as a tool for shaping cultural identity and driving cultural awareness in Bekasi. The research also seeks to identify the challenges faced in preserving local languages and provide recommendations to enhance community awareness of the importance of local languages.
Methodologies : This research employs a qualitative approach with subjects consisting of diverse communities in Bekasi. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and document analysis. Interviews were conducted with community leaders, cultural figures, and youth to gather their perspectives on language and cultural identity. Observations were made at various cultural events to understand the practice of language use in social contexts
Principal Results : The findings indicate that local language plays a central role in shaping the cultural identity of the Bekasi community. The use of local language in social interactions strengthens relationships among community members and enhances a sense of togetherness. However, the teaching of local languages in schools remains limited, and many young people are beginning to shift towards national and foreign languages. Social media also emerges as an effective means to promote the use of local languages
Major Conclusions : This study emphasizes the importance of efforts to preserve local languages as part of cultural identity and cultural awareness in Bekasi. Collaboration between the government, educational institutions, and the community is necessary to create programs that support the preservation of local languages. The contribution of this research provides in-depth insights into the role of language in shaping cultural identity and practical recommendations for the preservation of local culture in the future.
