TEKNOLOGI DIGITAL DAN KRISIS TRANSENDENSI: MENAKAR KEMBALI PERAN AGAMA DALAM DUNIA MODERN
Abstract
The development of digital technology has profoundly transformed modern human life, including how people perceive and practice religion. Rapid digital transformation has created a distance between humans and their spiritual dimension, leading to what can be called a crisis of transcendence—a condition in which awareness of the Divine presence fades amid the dominance of rationality and visual culture. This study aims to reexamine the role of religion in addressing the challenges of the digital world and to propose a renewed understanding of spirituality in the technological era. Employing a qualitative approach through library research, this study analyzes various scholarly works concerning the relationship between religion, technology, and modern spirituality. The findings reveal that digital technology not only contributes to spiritual decline but also offers new opportunities for religious renewal and the reinforcement of ethical values. Religion remains a vital source of meaning and moral awareness, guiding technological advancement toward alignment with humanistic and divine principles. This research contributes to the academic discourse on digital spirituality by proposing that technological progress must be accompanied by deep transcendental reflection to prevent modern civilization from losing its moral and spiritual orientation.
