Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of coding education on students' ability to focus and concentrate during learning. In today’s digital world, coding skills are essential, but there is skepticism about their influence on cognitive functions such as attention. The research aimed to examine whether learning coding could improve students' focus and concentration. Using a quantitative method, the study involved secondary school students in Jakarta. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires assessing focus and concentration levels before and after students received coding education, complemented by interviews with both teachers and students. Findings revealed a significant enhancement in students' focus and concentration following the coding activities. Students engaged in coding demonstrated higher motivation and engagement, which correlated with improved concentration abilities. The study concludes that integrating coding into the curriculum is an effective way to foster better focus and concentration in educational settings. This research provides valuable insights for educators and policymakers aiming to develop more interactive and cognitive skill-enhancing curricula. It also opens avenues for further studies on the broader cognitive benefits of coding education for students.
